Bachelor of Arts in History Honours

A study of History at the undergraduate level familiarizes students with the broad contours of Indian and World history. Besides political developments, they acquire a basic understanding of the economic, social, and cultural processes that are integral constituents of the history of every people. A wide variety of career opportunities in the fields of education, civil services, journalism, law, media, and tourism are available to students of History. They can also pursue specialized courses in archaeology, numismatics, epigraphy, heritage management, and archival studies.

The History Department consistently endeavours to supplement classroom and curriculum teaching with field trips to heritage sites in order to sensitize students to the richness   of our past. In the academic year 2013-2014, our students visited Udaipur-Chittorgarh-Mount Abu (Rajasthan), and Dharamsala- Mcleodganj (Himachal Pradesh). In 2014-2015, a one-day trip was organized to Kurukshetra-Thanesar.

Besides these trips, the students participated in heritage awareness workshops organized by INTAC, and historical walks to the old city of Shahjahanabad. The students also visited the National Museum, and IGNCA to see the Alkazi Collection of rare photographs.

Several distinguished academics were invited to address students on areas of their specialization. All these activities have helped students to acquire a nuanced approach to the study of History.
